How Do You Pronounce Pho?

  • Mar 27
  • 1 min read

Pho is pronounced roughly like “fuh?”

For English speakers, the easiest way to say it is “fuh,” but that is only an approximation. In Vietnamese, the tone mark adds a slight rising, questioning sound. That means pho is not said in a flat voice. It lifts at the end, making it sound a little like “fuh?”

If you want the simplest memory trick, think:

Pho = “fuh?” not “foe.”

That will get you much closer to the real pronunciation.
